WEEK ENDING 5th AUGUST 2017

Well, despite being at a massive disadvantage streaming wise, "Despacito" climbs back to Number 1 for a third time this week, only the fifth record ever to achieve this. It also becomes just the 11th record to achieve at least 10 weeks at Number 1.  For the complete list of these two achievements see the relevant posts elsewhere on this blog.

Claiming a 10th (non-consecutive) week at the top, here is Luis, Daddy & Justin with "Despacito".

Dropping back to 2 after just a single week at the top is "Wild Thoughts" from DJ Khaled, Rihanna & Bryson Tiller, while at 3 for a fourth consecutive week (fifth in total), are French Montana & Swae Lee with "Unforgettable".

The tracks at Numbers 4 & 5 also stay static for a third successive week - at 4 is "Feels" by Calvin Harris, Katy Perry, Pharrell & Big Sean, while at 5 is Jonas Blue & William Singe with "Mama".

Up two more places to 6 is Little Mix (featuring the uncredited vocals of Stormzy) with "Power", while there is another non-mover at 7 - Rita Ora with "Your Song".

Edging up one more place to 8 is Maggie Lindemann with "Pretty Girl", while up two places, and back into the Top 10 is Sigala & Ella Eyre with"Came Here For Love".

And at 10, up 6 places, giving Rudimental their first Top 10 hit in more than 2 years, this is "Sun Comes Up" (featuring James Arthur).

In at Number 13 comes this week's highest new entry.  It is the latest single by 1D member Louis Tomlinson.

Featuring US singer/songwriter Bebe Rexha & British DJ Nicholas Gale (AKA Digital Farm Animals) this is "Back To You".

After the recent tragic death of  singer Chester Berrington, we have a re-entry at Number 14 for Linkin Park, as their Number 8 hit from 2001, "In The End", gives the band their first UK Top 20 entry since "New Divide", almost exactly eight years ago.

RIP Chester, this is "In The End".

Possibly cashing in on the "Despacito" factor, there is a new entry at Number 16 for Enrique Iglesias with "Subeme La Radio".  This track has been hovering around the bottom of the US Hot 100 Singles chart since early April.  Over there guest vocals are provided by Descember Bueno, Zion & Lennox.  But for the UK version Enrique has enlisted the immense vocal talents of the legend that is Sean Paul as well as, perhaps surprisingly, X Factor 2016 winner Matt Terry.

With his first Top 20 hit for more than 3 years, here is Enrique, with the US version of "Subeme La Radio".

Moving up an impressive 17 places this week, up from last week's 36, is Dua Lipa.

With her sixth successive UK Top 20 hit in less than a year, here she is with "New Rules",

In at 20 this week is the second re-entry from Linkin Park.

A track that originally peaked at Number 14 back in 2003, this is "Numb".

Foreign language songs seem to be the "thing" at the moment as this week's highest climber moves up 22 places to sit just outside the 40 at Number 46.

Performed by Colombian artist J Balvin & French DJ Willy William , this is "Mi Gente".

Way back in 2013-14 English DJ Duke Dumont started off his UK chart career with two instant Number Ones - ""Need U (100%)" and "Got U".

This week he is back in the Top 50 after 2 years away.

Featuring duo Gorgon City, up 12 places to Number 48, this is "Real Life".

Finally for the chart this week, the impact of the new chart ruling which reduces track's streaming ration from 150:1 to 300:1 after 10 weeks is highlighted by the track at Number 54 this week.  "Thunder" by Imagine Dragons climbed one place to Number 20 on its ninth week on the chart last week, but with the stream adjustment kicking in this week, it plummets down the chart 34 places.

Ausual, I finish with tracks from the US & UK Number 1 albums.  In the UK, congratulations are in order for Lana del Rey as she follows up 2012's "Born To Die" and 2014's "Ultraviolence" to claim her third UK Number 1 album with "Lust For Life".

From the album, this was the first single, "Love".

In the US, Jay-Z claims a second week at the top with his 14th Number One album "4:44".

From the album, this is the "Story Of OJ".
