WEEK ENDING AUGUST 12th 2017

It's still there - 11 weeks now for the phenomenon that is "Despacito", as it becomes just the second record EVER to spend 2 weeks at Number 1 on three separate occasions - the only other one being Frankie Laine with "I Believe" more than 60 years ago.  It also gives Justin Bieber his 30th week at Number 1 in less than 2 years - only six acts in chart history have more total weeks at the top.  It is also only the fifth time ever that an artists has spent as many weeks at the top in a single decade.  The other 4? - In the 50's, Frankie Laine with 32 and in the 60's, the Beatles with 69, Elvis Presley with 44 & the Shadows with 33.

How many more week will it stay there - well done to Luis, Daddy & Justin.  Here they are with "Despacito".

Stuck behind the trio for a fifth of it's seven weeks on the chart at Number 2 is the other trio of DJ Khaled, Rihanna & Bryson Tiller with
"Wild Thoughts" from DJ Khaled, Rihanna & Bryson Tiller, while up one at 3 is the quartet of Calvin Harris, Katy Perry, Pharrell Williams & Big Sean.  It is Calvin Harris' first Top 3 hit in over a year, while  Katy Perry hasn't been as high up the chart since her Number 1 single, "Roar", way back in 2013.  As for Pharrell, it is his first Top 3 appearance since his massive Number 1, "Happy" in early 2014. As for rapper Big Sean, it marks his debut entry in the Top 3.

Down one place to 4 is French Montana & Swae Lee with "Unforgettable", while stuck at 5 again is Jonas Blue & William Singe with "Mama".

So there are 14 artists in the Top 5 - surely some sort of record??

At Number 6 for a second week, is Little Mix with "Power", while back up two places to 7 is Sigala featuring Ella Eyre with "Came Here For Love".

Up two more to 8 is Rudimental & James Arthur with "Sun Comes Up" - congratulations are in order for Mr Arthur as well, as his former UK Number One "Say You Won't Let Go" celebrates 40 weeks on the US Hot 100 this week.

Up 10 places to 9 this week, with her third Top 10 hit of the year, from her excellent debut album, here is Dua Lipa with "New Rules".

And at 10 this week, down three places, is Rita Ora with "Your Song".

Up eleven places to 16 this week, this is Demi Lovato with "Sorry Not Sorry".

Two places lower, and making her debut appearance in the Top 20, is 21 year old Finnish singer-songwriter Alma-Sofia Miettinen.

Moving up six places from last week's 24, this is "Chasing Highs".

This week's highest climber, smashes into the Top 40 this week at Number 21, moving up 25 places.  Jose Balvin is a 32 year old Colombian reggaeton singer and Willy William is a French DJ & record producer, and the track is both artists' UK debut hit.

Hoping to be the new "Despacito", this is "Mi Gente".

Up 10 places to 22 this week is a track which has been around for some time, with 7 weeks on the chart.

Featuring Demi Lovato & Stefflon Don, here is Jax Jones with "Instruction".

Back into the Top 40 after slipping out last week, up 11 places to Number 30, this is ungen featuring Yxng Bane with "Bestie".

Another track re-entering the 40 after dropping out last week, moves up 13 places to 31 this week, 5 places lower than its peak debut.

With the track "Rain", this is the Script.

At Number 42 we finally have this week's highest new entry, as Charli XCX returns to the chart.

This is "Boys".

Up 18 places to Number 50 this week, and back in the charts after nearly four years away are Canadian rockers Arcade Fire.

From their brand new Number 1 album, "Everything Now", this is the title track.

Now I don't normally mention tracks that are dropping down the chart in this post, but a special mention this week goes to the track which drops from 53 to 55 this week.  "Mr Brightside" by the Killers has now spent more than three years in total on the Top 100 chart, but, for the first time since its release in 2004, it has spent 6 consecutive weeks in the Top 75 chart, and now has 40 weeks in total.

No excuse needed, here is the brilliant video.

Ausual, I finish with tracks from the US & UK Number 1 albums.  In the UK, as I mentioned above, Canadian band Arcade Fire hit the top with their fifth studio album, giving them three consecutive chart toppers following on from "The Suburbs" in 2010 & "Reflektor" in 2013.

From the album, this is "Creature Comfort".

In the US, Lana del Rey repeats her UK success to claim the Number 1 spot.  It is her second chart topper over there, following on from 2014's "Ultraviolence".

From the album, this was the first single, "Love".
