WEEK ENDING 3rd JUNE 2017

"Despacito" claims a third week at the top this week to equal the record run for a foreign language chart topper, although Manhattan Transfer's "Chanson d'Amour" only loosely qualifies as it has mainly English lyrics.  Nevertheless, a fourth week at the top next week, and Luis, Daddy & Bieber will claim the record for their own.

Talking of Bieber, he continues piling up the records - this week marks the 12th time in his chart career that he has held the top 2 positions in the same week, beating Ed Sheeran's record of 11 weeks set earlier this year.

He also now has a total of 22 weeks at Number One in the UK this decade.  The highest total in a single decade since Abba's 26 weeks in the 1970's.  The last act to claim as many as 20 weeks in a single decade was the Spice Girls who hit 21 weeks in the 1990's (see separate post for list of most weeks at Number One by decade).

So well done again to Luis Fonsi, Daddy Yankee & the Beibmeister - here is "Despacito" (the original version minus Bieber's vocal).

As per above, static at Number 2, is DJ Khaled featuring Justin Bieber, Quavo, Chance the Rapper & Lil' Wayne with "I'm The One", while this weeks highest new entry comes in at Number 3.

"Strip That Down" marks 1D member Liam Payne's debut hit as a solo artist, and he becomes the fifth and final member of the band to make his solo chart debut.  Zayn & Harry have already had Number Ones, while Louis hit Number 2 last year.  Niall's debut hit, "This Town" peaked at Number 9.

Aiding Liam on the single is another boy band member, Quavo of Migos, who, like Bieber, is one of the guest vocalists on "I'm The One", therefore sits at Numbers 2 & 3 this week.

Here is "Strip That Down" (which I think sounds suspiciously like Shaggy's "It Wasn't Me" - judge for yourself).

Static at 4 this week is Shawn Mendes with "There's Nothing Holdin' Me Back", while down two to 5 is former Number One "Symphony" from Clean Bandit featuring Zara Larsson.

Up 2 places to 6 is "Unforgettable" by French Montana & Swae Lee, while dropping out of the Top 5 for the first time is "Shape Of You" by Ed Sheeran - down 2 to 7 this week.

Down one place to 7 are Jason, Nicki & Ty with "Swalla", while into the Top 10 for the first time as a solo artist is Charlie Puth, as "Attention" moves up 3 places to 9.

And down 4 at 10 is "Sign Of The Times" from Harry Styles.

After the tragic event in Manchester last Monday at an Ariana Grande concert, her 2015 hit "One Last Time" re-enters this week at Number 11, beating its previous peak position of 24.

As a tribute to the 22 who tragically lost their lives, here is Ariana with "One Last Time".  RIP.

Up 10 places to Number 12 this week is Jonas Blue with his fourth consecutive UK Top 20 hit.

Featuring vocals from Australian former boy band member William Singe, this is "Mama".

New in at 35 this week is the 10th UK Top 40 hit for Selena Gomez.

This is "Bad Liar".

Ausual, I finish with tracks from the US & UK Number 1 albums.  After just 1 week at the top in the UK, Harry Styles debut has been dethroned by Ed Sheeran, whose "Divide" album claims its 10th week at the top.

From the album this is "Galway Girl".

However, over in the US, Harry does claim the Number One spot with his self-titled debut album.

From the album, this is  his recent Top 10 hit "Sign Of The Times".
