On the US Hot 100 chart dated 6th January 2018, 25 year old rapper Belcalis Almazar (AKA Cardi B) places three tracks in the Top 10 - "No Limit" (on which she features with fellow rappers G-Eazy & $AP Rocky) at Number 4; "MotorSport" (on which she features with Migos & Nicki Minaj) at Number 7 and her debut solo Number 1 hit "Bodak Yellow (Money Moves") at Number 10.
What is remarkable about this achievement is that they are her first three hits in the US - putting her alongside just the Beatles and Ashanti, as the only other artists to have achieved this feat in the US.
The Beatles had their first three hits in the Top 10 for seven consecutive weeks - 29th February t0 11th April 1964. On 29th February "I Want To Hold You Hand" and "She Loves You" remained static at Numbers 1 & 2 respectively, while "Please Please Me" climbed an impressive 23 places to Number 6. The following week, the first two again remained static, with "Please Please Me" climbing two further places to Number 4.
It was the following week, however, - 14th March 1964 that the band would first occupy the Top 3 places, with "Please Please Me" climbing one more place. On the 4th April, in fact, Beatles songs would occupy all the Top 5 places - "Can't But Me Love moving up from 27 to 1; "Twist & Shout" up 1 place to 2; "She Loves You" dropping from Number 1 to 3; "I Want To Hold Your Hand" dropping 2 to 4 and "Please Please Me" dropping 1 place to Number 5.
The feat would not be equalled for 38 years, until 30th March 2002, when 21 year old Ashanti (Douglas) placed her first three hits on that weeks Top 10 - a feat she continued the following week. At Number 4 that week she appeared on Ja Rule's "Always On Time", at Number 5 she featured On Fat Joe's "What's Luv" while her solo hit "Foolish" was at Number 9. The following week "What's Luv" has risen to Number 2, "Foolish" to Number 4, while "Always On Time" dropped to 9.
A total of 15 acts have now had three simultaneous Top 10 hits since the inception of the Hot 100 in 1958 - the other 12 being (in no particular order) Chainsmokers, Iggy Azalea, Ariana Grande, Bee Gees, 50 Cent, Usher, Akon, T-Pain, Chris Brown, Adele, Lil' Wayne & Justin Bieber.
So well done to Ms B, here she is with that Number 1 hit "Bodak Yellow (Money Moves)"
